Michel Medrano Brindis was born on November 25, 1988 in Havana City, Cuba. Thanks to his older brother Carlitos Medrano, Michel became interested in percussion. He began playing afro-cuban percussion & drums at the age of 17, learning by himself by watching others percussionist, drummers and bands. At the age of 18 he already played at different private and official events. In 2008 & 2009 Michel took part in the International Jazz Festival, Jazz Plaza in Havana, Cuba with Orlando Sanchez “Cubajazz” and Rember Duharte & Nautilus (winner of Jojazz 2007, 2008 for best jazz composition.) After that, Michel continued playing at the famous jazz clubs in Havana “La Zorra Y El Cuervo” & “Jazz Café”, as well he accompanied different local bands playing traditional Cuban music.
Since moving to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada in late 2009, Michel has accompanied on drums and Latin percussion on festivals, private events, local gigs artists in the western provinces of Canada.
After moving to Montreal (Quebec), in late 2011, he performed in many festivals in Canada & around the world, he accompanied, recorded with many locals, internationals artists such as
Jack Semple, David Sanborn, Dominique Hudson,
Miguel De Armas, Hilario Duran, Gipsy Kings,
Jane Bunnet and the renowned rapper Danny
Fernardez, a.k.a. “DEF 3,” during the 2010 Winter
Olympics and many others...
